Florence Man Arrested for 10 Counts of Sex Exploit of a Child

On Tues., Jan. 6, 2014, the Arizona Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force concluded a four month investigation with the arrest of Aaron-Caleb DeCook, 26 of Florence. In September 2014, a Texas Detective working within Internet Crimes Against Children discovered images of child sexual abuse were being traded over the Internet from an address in Arizona.

FOUND: 13 yr old missing from Casa Grande

UPDATE: Angel has been found and was reunited with his family, Dec 31st. Today, at approximately 1:50 pm, the parents of Angel Vega, 13 of Casa Grande, contacted the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office to report that Angel has been despondent the last several days and went missing about two hours prior near the 10400 block of S. Chuichu Rd. near Casa Grande. 

Foster Families Always Needed in Pinal County

Pinal County employees interested in becoming foster parents attended a “Lunch and Learn” seminar sponsored by the Pinal County Employee Wellness Coalition. The presentation was given by Chrissy Edwards, a program coordinator for Arizona’s Children Association. “There are currently 77 Pinal County kids in group homes right now,” Edwards said.  “We want to get them out and into a real home.”

Former Pinal employee sentenced in ID theft scam

Albert Robbs, a former employee in the Pinal County Recorder’s Office, has been sentenced to three years in prison for assisting a criminal syndicate and two years for unlawful possession of an access device. Pinal County Superior Court Judge Boyd Johnson also ordered on Sept. 27 that the sentences should run consecutively with no credit for jail time served.

Florence votes down Marijuana Dispensary

On Monday night, in a 2-4 vote, Florence Town Council failed to approve a conditional use permit for a marijuana dispensary proposed to be located between Pinal County Superior Court, a family oriented restaurant and Behavioral Systems Southwest’s Florence Residential Re-Entry Center (RRC). Shedding light on the applicant’s proposed location violating town ordinances and the dangers of a marijuana dispensary being located at the proposed site, speakers opposing the location included Sheri George, Chairman of San Tan Valley Substance Abuse Coalition, Dr. Amy Fuller Superintendent of Florence Unified School District, and representatives from the Pinal County Attorney’s Office and Arizona Department of Corrections.

Florence voters will be asked to approve the purchase of Johnson Utilities in a special election set for May 20

The Town of Florence will be asking Florence voters to approve the purchase of Johnson Utilities in a special election May 20th.  Johnson Utilities is the water and wastewater provider for Anthem and San Tan Valley. This is the Town’s second effort to purchase the assets of the utility company.   The Town of Florence originally considered purchasing Johnson Utilities in 2007. 

Florence Voted in as Newest Member of MAG

On May 22, 2013, the Maricopa Association of Governments Regional Council voted unanimously to expand its membership to include the Town of Florence and the City of Maricopa. “The Town of Florence’s inclusion into MAG provides us with additional planning and transportation resources that will enhance our ability to properly plan for our future”, said Florence Mayor Tom J. Rankin.

Florence Town staff has recommended against approval sought by Curis Resources.

The amendments would change the plan’s current “Master Planned Community” status to allow the Florence Copper Project to operate for approximately 20 years in the property’s “First Life.” Curis proposes a less dense residential, mixed use, parks and open space plan for the property’s “Second Life” post mining. Town staff’s recommendations against the amendments are contained in memos to the Planning & Zoning Commission, which heard presentations and comments on Sept. 15 at Sun City Anthem Union Center.
